In September 2006, I entered my first juried art competition in Australia: the John Copes art prize in Bowral, a fairly large art competition in the Southern Highlands. I entered this drawing which was commended by judge Patrick Carrol.

"A significant and excellent rendering with pen and ink. Black and white is apparently the epitome of simplicity and yet any artist who has accepted its challenges is vulnerable to being humbled to the experience. Mr Cooke may indulge prideful arrogance on this occasion - well done!" -Patrick Carrol, Sept 2006
"Holy Cow" is pen and india ink on illustration board and took months to draw over a period of a decade. Of the 59 pieces hung in the show, this was only one of 7 commended by Mr. Carrol. The show was considered and noted on the opening night as the strongest in the history of the competition with strong entries from all over. In addition, the drawing won the popular choice prize of attendees to the show! It was offered to Her Majesty the Queen of England who poilitely declined. It now hangs in the elephant boy Cafe in Bowral.
